As both director and editor in the main, I'm responsible for selection of materials, content editing, proofreading, design, illustration & layout & meeting production deadlines of online & print journal editions; proficient in MSWord, PaintShopPro, basic html markup language; basic web design & webmaster skills for homesite, including layout, text editors and SEO tagging; editorial writing, occasional in-house reviews & essays (also writing under 2 pen names); supervision and direction of 6 staff editors.

In varying projects I've been responsible for writing storyboard scripts, or editing & revising others’ scripts for animated courses;  created artistic thumbnails to indicate art/animation development, charts, etc.; transcribed video to text and static images for storyboarding.

Thistlehawk Design is a line imprint of handpainted floorcloths and other functional home decor art from Tiny Violet Studios. I retired the studios in 2007 to primarily pursue editorial and literary projects. TVS was reprised to launch my artisan-made, functional-art line.

As owner/artisan, I was responsible for all buying decisions; composition & execution of all business correspondence; copyediting and camera art for all print advertising, promotional materials & internal signage; individual & overall display merchandising of gifts, stationery products, antiques & scale model supplies; resident artist in charge of designing/producing handpainted products, and custom “creative builder” for miniature houses, furniture & accessories; for overseeing employees. Sideline freelance illustration and graphics. 

 

 

Journey/The Reality Box

1999 - 2003

 

I was the Serial Fiction Columnist for The Reality Box Newsletter for the Journey Center, Los Angeles, writing Science-Fiction/Fantasy;  I was also the Serial Columnist/Analyst for their Dream Psychology column;  I was responsible for regular serial columns, 2-6 pages each (appr. 500-1,500 wrds) weekly:  “Embrangled Sleep” & “Inner Voice”—non-fiction/analysis; and “Utherwerlds”—Fiction.

Self-Employed Freelance Designer/Illustrator, Display Merchandiser & Custom Miniature Builder; I was responsible for corporate & ad design stages: thumbnails & comps through to camera art; varied media illustration for newspaper & book cover art; body copy, headline & caption editing;  commercial window and independent display design for retail advertising (Mr. Peepers, Inc., Leslies Antiques & Eastern’s Pharmacy); custom design & finishing of miniature scale houses & furnishings through contract at Mr. Peepers, Inc., 1992-1997;  produced line of handpainted miniatures under the product line name “RAVE Miniatures” from1993-1997.    Artist Portfolio available by appointment.

In the 1990s (under new ownership), I was responsible for custom finishing/design on varied miniature projects and architectural scale models; I also assisted in all aspects of retail sales when necessary & created a majority of window & independent merchandise displays.  In the '80s, I assisted the original owners with all aspects of the retail business, including but not limited to display merchandising, signage, sales, and purchasing.
